Sky Sports sources understand that Stuttgart striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is undergoing a medical at Fulham.
The Russia international had been connected with Fulham's Premier League rivals West Brom but Roy Hodgson on Monday played down talk of a move.
It is now believed that Pogrebnyak has linked up with the Cottagers to be put through a series of physical tests ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.
The 28-year-old is out of contract with Stuttgart at the end of the season and appears to have been identified by Martin Jol as somebody who could improve Fulham's attacking arsenal.
Jol had previously suggested that he was unlikely to strengthen his squad before the window slammed shut as he was happy with the options already at his disposal.
Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson have been tipped to leave Fulham this month but Jol has made it clear he would prefer to keep both players.
