Mark Hughes has indicated that Queens Park Rangers will not try to sign Chris Samba from Blackburn before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
Samba reiterated his desire to leave Ewood Park last week after handing in a transfer request and his future will be one of the main points of interest in the hours before the winter window slams shut.
Blackburn have insisted they do not want him to leave and Hughes has previously remained coy on the possibility of launching a late bid.
The QPR manager is continuing to play his cards close to his chest with regard to any targets but it now appears unlikely he will attempt to land Samba.
Asked whether he would make another bid, he told reporters: "Unfortunately I don't give you many clues but I will try and steer you in the right direction: maybe [thinking we will sign Samba] is the wrong direction to go."
