Sky Sports understands new Rochdale manager John Coleman has made a bid for Shrewsbury Town striker Terry Gornell.
Coleman signed Gornell during his time as Accrington boss and the 22-year-old was Stanley's top scorer last season.
He left the Crown Ground last summer to join Shrewsbury and he has netted six times since linking up with Graham Turner's men.
However, following Coleman's recent appointment as Rochdale manager, Gornell could be offered the opportunity to step back up to League One.
It is understood that Dale have submitted an offer for the former Tranmere Rovers forward as Coleman tries to improve his squad further before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
