Aberdeen boss Craig Brown is keen to sign up Stephen Hughes, while he is not ruling out a move for fellow trialist Danny Uchechi.
The pair linked up with the Dons earlier this week in a bid to impress Brown in training and secure permanent moves.
Midfielder Hughes is a free agent following the expiry of his Motherwell contract, while winger Uchechi left Sheffield Wednesday in November.
Brown has liked what he has seen from Hughes and hopes he will accept the club's terms.
The former Scotland boss is not ruling out a move for Uchechi, stating there is a hole in his squad that needs filling.
"We are making headway in our attempt to bring Hughes in and have spoken to him and his agent," commented Brown.
"If he is prepared to accept our terms then we will be looking to give him a contract until the end of the season.
"We heard about Uchechi back in the summer and decided to take him on trial because it's one of the positions we need to fill.
"He has looked sprightly. You couldn't rule him out on anything he has done so far."
