Jackett hoping to secure defender on permanent deal

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett is hopeful of securing the services of Aston Villa defender Shane Lowry on a permanent basis before the transfer window closes next Tuesday. Lowry has made a positive impact since joining the Championship strugglers on loan in November, and he is understood to be keen on a long-term stay. Jackett has now revealed that the Lions are in talks with Villa over a deal for Lowry, although he does not expect an agreement to be reached before the weekend. "It is something we are working on," Jackett said. "Our chief executive Andy Ambler is working with Villa on it at the minute but I don't expect the deal to be done before Saturday." Jackett also denied speculation that he was interested in luring Stevenage defender Scott Laird to The Den despite watching him in action during their win over Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday. The Lions boss admitted he was at the game, but when asked if he was considering a bid for Laird, he said: "No, there is nothing in that."
