Aberdeen have revealed that midfielder Kari Arnason is set to leave the club in the summer after he turned down a new contract.

The Scottish Premier League outfit offered the Icelandic new terms to his existing deal, but he is looking to move on.

The 29-year-old has become an instant hit with the Dons' fans after playing in all-but-three of their league games this season.

He signed from Plymouth in the summer and has scored three goals, including one against Rangers in a 1-1 draw last weekend.

Aberdeen are eighth in the SPL and have lost just once in their last eight games.

A statement from the club read: "We made Kari an exceptionally good offer; however the player believes he can earn a better deal elsewhere and it looks like he'll be moving on at the end of the season.

"Reports that the club is willing to sell the Icelandic international in the current transfer window are wide of the mark though, as he is crucial to our plans for the remainder of the current campaign, both in terms of climbing up the SPL table and enjoying a fruitful run in the Scottish Cup."
