Northampton have signed Leicester's Chris Weale on one-month loan deal after the goalkeeper failed to hold down a place with the Foxes.

The 29-year-old joins the Cobblers after failing to hold down a place in the Leicester starting line-up. Weale has only made three appearances this season for the Foxes after falling out of favour following the arrival of Kasper Schmeichel. Weale will deputise for the injured Shane Higgs at Sixfields and Northampton manager Aidy Boothroyd is full of praise for the stopper, hailing him as the best goalkeeper in npower League Two. "Considering our current position, and considering the calibre and experience of the player we are bringing in, I think we have just signed the best goalkeeper in this division," he said. "He has come because he wants to play, he wants to work with Tim Flowers and he wants to help us and make a contribution to help get us away from where we are. "When you bring players and characters like that in, you are giving yourselves a great chance of achieving something."
