Rangers manager Ally McCoist hopes to conclude the signing of Mervan Celik swiftly.
The 21-year-old will undergo a medical with the Scottish Premier League champions, who are keen to reinforce their squad this month, on Friday.
Should Rangers manage to conclude a deal with Celik, his former club GAIS would be due a compensation fee.
"We are well into it at the moment," said McCoist.
"Mervan is just seeing the doctor and physio and undergoing a medical.
"We are very hopeful in the next half an hour, 45 minutes that the deal will be completed and the medical will be okay."
McCoist seems intent on making changes to his squad this month, with Rangers expected to make an offer for Estonian defender Enar Jaager.
Fellow trialist Jorge Claros will have his stay extended by another week so that they can continue to monitor him.
