Dundee United have given up in their pursuit of Dougie Imrie after failing in an initial bid for the Hamilton forward.
The Tannadice club made an offer of £25,000 for the 28-year-old, but the approach was knocked back by the First Division side.
And with United now out of the chase, Imrie has been linked with a move to St Mirren, who defeated Hamilton in the midweek Scottish Cup fourth-round replay, and MK Dons.
A statement read: "Dundee United confirm they will not be pursuing the signature of Dougie Imrie.
"A bid of £25,000 was rejected by Hamilton and we now consider the matter closed."
Chairman Stephen Thompson said: "We had made an offer which we thought was fair.
"Hamilton have chosen to reject the offer as they were perfectly entitled to do.
"We have now withdrawn the initial offer and will not be pursuing this transfer."
