Crawley boss Steve Evans has given up on his pursuit of Ipswich star Andy Drury after the clubs could not agree on a transfer fee.
Drury, 28, spent three months on loan at the Broadfield Stadium earlier this season and Evans was hoping to bring him back on a permanent basis this month.
But he told the club's official website: "The reality is despite how much I wanted him, the clubs could not agree on a transfer fee.
"I also think maybe his wages could have been a problem because it should not be forgotten they were heavily subsidised by Ipswich when he was on loan with us."
However, Evans remains confident of adding to his title-chasing squad before the transfer window closes.
"I have a few players in mind and we are talking to a couple of clubs," he added.
