Rangers boss Ally McCoist says his interest in signing Arsenal striker Benik Afobe on loan has waned after the teenager picked up an injury.
Afobe revealed Gers' had signalled their interest earlier this week, while also claiming an unnamed Premier League side are chasing his signature.
But the 18-year-old is currently sidelined with a long-term hip injury suffered in October and will not be back in action until next month at the earliest.
While manager McCoist is a fan of the young hitman, he would rather sign a player who is available to play straight away.
He said: "I spoke to (Rangers' Arsenal loanee) Kyle Bartley about Afobe and he said he is a smashing lad.
"He was at Huddersfield and scored a few goals there but he is injured at the moment and that would certainly cool our interest in him.
"We feel we need somebody who could come in and play right away.
"I don't think we could find a bench for him in the treatment room to be honest with you.
"A more immediate target is to get someone who can come in and play."
