Striker signs two-and-a-half-year deal with Reading

Reading have confirmed they have signed Shamrock Rovers striker Karl Sheppard. As revealed by Sky Sports last weekend, the Royals were lining up a move for the former Everton youngster in a bid to bolster their attacking options. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 International spent three years at Goodison Park as a trainee before returning to his native Republic of Ireland. The 20-year-old has impressed at Shamrock Rovers and was a key member of the side that qualified for the Europa League this season.

Great record

Sheppard has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal at the Madejski Stadium after passing a medical and the player's agent, Dan Fletcher, admits the player is relishing joining the Championship club. "Reading is a wonderful opportunity for Karl, one that I hope he grabs with both hands," Fletcher told Sky Sports. "Nicky Hammond has been tracking Karl since his Everton days and he was keen to bring him to Reading. "Reading have a great record with young Irish players, especially strikers like Kevin Doyle and Shane Long, so hopefully Karl can emulate them."
