Accrington midfielder Ian Craney edged closer to a first-team return with two goals for the reserves on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old broke his leg and his ankle in a training ground collision at the end of October, but marked his appearance in a 3-0 Lancashire Senior Cup win over Oldham with a brace to push for inclusion in John Coleman's squad for Saturday's League Two clash with Barnet.

Craney chipped home his first goal from the edge of the penalty area and fired a second after the half hour following a smart dummy in the box.

He was only denied a hat-trick when his goalbound free-kick 14 minutes from the end was blocked on the line.

Craney, who counts Swansea and Huddersfield among his former clubs, last appeared for Stanley in the 2-0 home defeat to Swindon on October 15 and was an unused substitute in the recent victory over Macclesfield.
