Sky Sports sources understand Kilmarnock are close to agreeing a deal with Doncaster Rovers to bring Dean Shiels back to the club.

Shiels impressed in scoring six goals in 22 appearances for Killie during the first half of the season after linking up with his father Kenny at Rugby Park.

Killie boss Kenny Shiels is keen to hang on to his son, but last week cast doubt on his prospects of being able to extend the loan.

However, it is now understood that the two clubs have held further talks regarding a deal which would see the midfielder return to Killie for the rest of the campaign.

The 26-year-old has recently been sidelined by an ankle injury, although there was a boost when scans showed he had not suffered a break.
