Blackburn boss Steve Kean is hoping Ryan Nelsen's injury nightmare can be put behind him when the Rovers skipper returns to Ewood Park from his native New Zealand.
Nelsen - who has been suffering with a knee problem for the last nine months - has played just one game for the Lancashire club this season and flew to New Zealand to spend time with the medical experts who played a key role in the All Blacks' Rugby World Cup success.
The 34-year-old defender - also the captain of the Kiwis national side - has been an integral player for Blackburn since signing in 2005, starting 169 league games and Kean is desperate to see Nelsen back in action.
"Ryan is going to spend 12 to 14 days with them so they can assess the problem and advise him on how to go about his rehab," said the Rovers boss. "Ryan is a big player for us, so hopefully he'll return and kick on."
Blackburn are currently rock bottom of the Premier League - and three points from safety - after losing 2-1 at home to Stoke on Monday.
