Skysports.com understands Southend United are lining up a move to sign Derby County's out-of-favour winger Dave Martin.
The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Pride Park since joining the club on a permanent basis from Millwall in 2010 following a loan spell.
He made just two substitute appearances in the Championship last season and has not figured in Nigel Clough's first team during the current campaign.
Martin made five appearances on loan at Walsall in the autumn after undertaking a stint on loan at Notts County in the second half of last term.
The wide man could now be on the move to Southend as manager Paul Sturrock looks to improve his squad ahead of Saturday's League Two fixture at home to Port Vale.
