Malaga have suffered a major injury blow with the news that Joaquin faces up to a month on the sidelines after suffering a muscle tear.
The winger has been diagnosed with a torn quadricep whilst playing in a Champions for Africa charity match.
The former Spain winger, who made 51 appearances for his country, joined the Qatari owned club in the summer from Valencia.
And following a promising start to their campaign, the club currently occupy seventh position in La Liga - just five points off the Champions League spots.
The club medical staff diagnosed Joaquin as suffering a grade-two tear in the right quadricep and he will be monitored closely.
It comes as a particularly bad blow for head coach Maunuel Pellegrini, who must prepare his squad for a double header against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey as well as La Liga games against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
