Skysports.com understands that Australian starlet Shane Lowry could be offered a route back to the Premier League, but not with Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Millwall in the Championship, and has impressed boss Kenny Jackett.
However, Lowry - who has been called into Australia's full squad - has caught the eye of other Premier League clubs, who are now considering a move.
Both Blackburn and Wigan have been impressed by the left-footed stopper, and could now make an offer to Villa, who look ready to let Lowry leave in January.
Millwall are keen to strike a permanent deal, but Lowry would no doubt be tempted by the chance of remaining in the top-flight.
