Bolton Wanderers are leading the chase to sign Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha, skysports.com understands.
Bolton are gearing up to sell prize asset Gary Cahill in January with Chelsea looking favourites to land the England star.
With that in mind, Bolton are hoping to use the cash from Cahill to bolster their squad with defensive reinforcements at the top of their agenda.
And 25-year-old Onuoha has emerged as their top target - rekindling an interest they had in August.
Bolton tried to sign Onuoha on deadline day, but the move failed to materialise - but Owen Coyle's liking for the former England Under-21 star has not diminished.
However, Bolton are not alone in their liking for the Nigerian-born defender, with Wolves, West Brom, Blackburn, Sunderland, Newcastle, QPR and Everton all believed to be monitoring the situation.
