Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon hopes to keep on-loan striker Leigh Griffiths, but concedes the club are unlikely to be able to pay a fee to Wolves.
Griffiths has scored three goals in 13 SPL appearances for Hibs this season and his loan deal at Easter Road is due to expire next month.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy revealed earlier this week that he is prepared to sell Griffiths in the New Year after the 21-year-old failed to make an impact at Molineux following his January arrival from Dundee.
The two clubs are continuing discussions and Fenlon is waiting to see if an agreement can be reached for Griffiths to stay with Hibs.
"We are talking to them at the moment," said Fenlon.
"We spoke to Mick. I think they're of the opinion if they could sell him, they probably would.
"We're of the opinion we'd like to keep him on loan. I don't think we're in a position to (pay a fee).
"It's really between the two clubs at the moment. I've spoken to Mick and we'll just have to wait and see."
