Peterborough United are waiting to learn the extent of the knee injury suffered by Lee Tomlin during Saturday's 1-0 win over Coventry City.
Grant McCann has recently been sidelined by a knee ligament injury and Posh boss Darren Ferguson feels Tomlin has picked up a similar problem.
Midfielder Lee Frecklington also limped off against Coventry and faces a race to be fit for the Boxing Day trip to Nottingham Forest.
Ferguson said: "We think Lee has suffered a similar injury to Grant McCann. It's probably not quite as bad, but we will have to wait and see.
"It's a blow to lose any player, but to possibly have three out at the same time is a shame.
"However, it's a chance for others to come in and do well and the likes of Danny Kearns and Joe Newell have shown we have decent strength in depth.
"Everyone wants to play in the Christmas matches. It's a terrific fixture for us at Forest and if we beat them we will be 10 points ahead of them which would be a massive advantage.
"It was important to go into the Christmas games with some momentum behind us so it was a great three points for us on Saturday."
