AC Milan defender Mario Yepes is facing three months on the sidelines after it was decided he requires ankle surgery.
Scans have revealed the centre-back has suffered serious ligament damage after sustaining the problem in Milan's 2-2 draw with Bologna.
Colombia international Yepes is now set to undergo his operation in either Italy or Holland and the news comes as a serious setback for Milan.
The 35-year-old had started three of the past four matches for the defending Serie A champions, who could consider a replacement in the January transfer window.
Yepes' run in the team had come as a consequence of an injury to Italy international Alessandro Nesta.
