Cardiff boss recognised after unbeaten month

Malky Mackay has been named Championship Manager of the Month for November after Cardiff enjoyed a terrific run of form. The Bluebirds picked up four league wins and a draw in November, whilst also advancing to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Blackburn. Cardiff kept up their momentum with a 1-0 success at home to Birmingham in their first match in December to go third in the Championship standings, just three points behind second-placed West Ham. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce had been one of the other contenders for the November award, along with Keith Hill of Barnsley and new Bristol City chief Derek McInnes. In the Player of the Month contest, Billy Sharp of Doncaster received the accolade after beating off competition from Cardiff's Peter Whittingham, Liam Fontaine of Bristol City and West Ham striker Carlton Cole. Rovers forward Sharp scored four goals in five games in November, including an incredible strike at home to Middlesbrough, playing on despite the death of his infant son just days earlier.
