Skysports.com understands Championship duo Cardiff and Burnley are chasing Sheffield United's Matt Lowton.
Lowton is regarded as one of the best young prospects outside the Premier League after impressing in the Championship last term.
The 22-year-old established himself as an integral member of United's first-team squad in the 2010/11 campaign, making 32 appearances in all competitions.
He can play at the back and in midfield and has been an ever-present in the United side this season, chipping in with three goals, meaning his performances have not gone unnoticed higher up the football pyramid.
Lowton is thought to have admirers in the Premier League, but Cardiff and Burnley are ready to steal a march on their rivals by making moves for the versatile performer when the transfer window opens in January.
United would be reluctant to lose their prize asset, but they could find it hard to reject a sizeable offer in the New Year.
