Hertha Berlin general manager Michael Preetz has revealed that his club are searching for a defender to sign during the January transfer window.
Maik Franz has been ruled out of action for up to six months with a cruciate ligament injury and the German side are seeking a replacement for him for the second half of the 2011/12 season.
"We are considering (buying a new defender)," Preetz told Kicker.
"Basically we are in the same situation as in the summer, before we finalised the signing of Maik Franz to our club.
"His injury is leaving us short of a seasoned centre-back player."
Franz joined Hertha on a free transfer during the summer transfer window after his tenure at Eintracht Frankfurt came to an end, and has a contract until June 2014.
