Ligue 1 outfit Nice have announced that striker Xavier Pentecote has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
The 25-year-old suffered the injury during a 2-0 victory over Rennes on Saturday.
He is now facing up a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with Nice confirming that he will require an operation in order to make a full recovery.
A statement released on the club's official website read: "Exams taken on Monday morning confirmed the initial diagnosis, namely rupture of anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
"The player suffered the same injury in August 2010 while playing for Toulouse.
"Xavier Pentecote will be operated on soon but the availability of the surgery is not yet known.
"The whole club is behind him and wish him a speedy recovery."
