Bolton's Zat Knight thinks referee Stuart Attwell will be embarrassed when he sees a replay of the tackle he sent Gary Cahill off for in Saturdays 3-0 defeat by Tottenham.
Despite being near the half-way line Attwell deemed Cahill's tackle on Scott Parker denied the midfielder a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Trotters boss Owen Coyle remonstrated with the referee on the pitch at half-time and said the decision left him "totally bemused" while club chairman Phil Gartside said it was an "absolute disgrace."
Knight said: "I was stunned. I thought he was just going to give him a yellow card.
"I had a word with the referee at half-time. Hopefully he will be looking back at it and he will be kicking himself.
"He said he would look at it again after the game, but it was too late for us. The three points had gone.
"That was the turning point for us. If we had 11 men we would have been able to give them more of a challenge."
The defender also voiced his support for his manager, with Coyle coming under pressure after a poor start to the season.
He added: "His training is fantastic. We couldn't ask for a better manager. We've just had back luck in recent games.
"We need to repay the favour back to the manager now because he has been as good as gold to everyone."
