Goalkeeper Rene Adler looks set to leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season as a result of his injury problems.
The former Germany No.1 missed the 2010 World Cup after breaking his ribs and this July he sustained damage to his patella tendon.
Adler has not played since the summer and Leverkusen this week announced the agreement of a permanent deal for Bernd Leno, who had initially been signed on loan as a temporary replacement.
Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller admits it is far from certain the club will continue with both goalkeepers on their books and Adler, 26, is expected to leave when his contract expires next June.
Voller told
BILD: "Looking at things now, it appears very unlikely we are to do the next season with Bernd Leno and Rene Adler both at our club.

"You definitely feel sorry for Rene Adler. At first he missed out on the World Cup due to injury. Then he went through the next long-term injury.
"But he is still very much a young lad. He is able to play on as a goalkeeper for about 10 years. I am sure of that."
Meanwhile, Germany head coach Joachim Low has said Adler remains in his thoughts.
Low told
Kicker-Sportmagazin: "He is still very much in my plans. He has been a very good goalkeeper. He is still a very good goalkeeper.
"I have no doubts. He is injured right now. We will have to wait until he has fully recovered. And we will have to see how quickly he returns to his top standard."
