David Artell believes similarities with manager Steve Davis have played a part in his selection as Crewe's permanent captain.
Under previous boss Dario Gradi, Artell shared the armband with Ashley Westwood and Lee Bell.
But Davis, a former centre-back for the Railwaymen, has decided Artell is the man lead his side.
"I have seen Steve as a player and I suppose we are of the same ilk," Artell told Crewe's official website.
"I am no great player, and there are far better players in this side than me, but you need people to do the ugly side for that blend. Whenever Steve wants me in the side I'll do my best for him.
"It's always an honour to be captain, but it's not something that should be put on a pedestal and isn't the be all and end all because it's a lot better to have 11 lads telling you where your man is than one lad wearing an armband shouting and bawling."
