Yossi Benayoun believes Arsenal have a bright future ahead after watching two midfield young guns impress in the narrow Carling Cup defeat to Manchester City.
Benayoun, who captained an inexperienced Gunners team against City, reserved special praise for the displays of Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin.
The duo lined up at the heart of Arsene Wenger's side and did not look out of place against the Premier League leaders' experienced midfield pairing of Owen Hargreaves and Nigel de Jong.
But they could not prevent £38m substitute Sergio Aguero snatching a late winner to send City into the semi-finals at Arsenal's expense.
"Frimpong played with a lot of confidence and spirit," Benayoun told the Gunners' official website.
"Also, he had a partner like Francis [Coquelin] in midfield who was very good for him and they controlled it.
"Manchester City have a lot of quality players and they did a great job. In the end we were unlucky.
"I think in the Carling Cup games you see a lot of young players coming in, doing their best and I think a few of them showed that they have a bright future for Arsenal."
