Skysports.com understands West Brom are in pole position to sign Dundee United starlet Scott Allan.
Allan, who made his SPL debut this season, is able to talk to interested clubs from 1st December as he is about to enter the final six months of his current contract at Tannadice.
Talks over a new deal with United have broken down and the SPL club are resigned to losing the highly-rated 20-year-old.
With Allan free to talk to clubs, United are expecting an influx of teams to approach them to ask for permission to speak to the player.
West Brom have held a long-term interest in Allan and are now trying to thrash out a deal with Dundee United for the Scotland Under 21 international.
Old Firm duo Rangers and Celtic are both thought to be keen on Allan, but West Brom are pushing to agree a deal with the midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January.
A number of other English clubs, including Burnley, Watford and Ipswich, are thought to be keeping tabs on Allan's situation and West Brom are determined to ward off their rivals by snapping up the Scot as soon as possible
