Millwall manager Kenny Jackett has set long-serving defender Alan Dunne the challenge of reclaiming his place in the starting line-up.

The full-back was left out of Saturday's 0-0 draw with London rivals Crystal Palace after Jackett opted to start with Jack Smith.

Dunne had been a regular in the Millwall side this season and Jackett is keen to see how the 29-year-old responds to being dropped.

Jackett told News Shopper: "My thinking was we needed some balance in terms of left footers and right footers at the back and Jack Smith has done well.

"Right-back is Smith's best position and I felt he deserved that opportunity.

"I do think Alan can come back and I think that's something he has to set himself in terms of a challenge."
