Tranmere goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams will undergo an operation on his broken hand on Monday.
The 24-year-old was ruled out of Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Exeter with the problem, suffered in training, and is expected to spend around eight weeks on the sidelines, according to boss Les Parry
"Fonners is having an operation, he's having a couple of bones in his hand wired," Parry told Tranmere Player.
"You can try to treat it conservatively, but the chances are, with the movement, it might not heal properly, so at least if they're wired you're almost guaranteed they'll unite properly.
"He'll be in a cast for four weeks, then he'll be out of it for two weeks before he can do anything. Then he can start training again.
"So we're looking at six weeks until training and maybe another two weeks after that."
