Ryan Mason's season-long loan deal with Doncaster has been cancelled and he has returned to Tottenham.
The midfielder made five appearances for Rovers, scoring his only goal in the Carling Cup victory over Tranmere.
However, an ankle injury in the same game sidelined Mason for two months.
And with the 20-year-old unable to command a regular place in Dean Saunders' side on his return, Spurs deemed a recall to White Hart Lane to be in his best interests.
Great player
Saunders told the Doncaster Free Press: "We couldn't guarantee that Ryan would be starting every week and Tottenham expected him to be playing, so he's gone back to them.
"The situation allows us to use his wages elsewhere now.
"I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on to big things because he's a great player.
"It's been a difficult situation for him here but we wish him well for the future because he's a good young player."
