Malaga's Joaquin will be sidelined for three weeks after picking up an injury to his right thigh.
The 30-year-old joined big-spending Malaga in the summer from Valencia on a three-year deal. He has made 11 appearances in the league this season and scored two goals.
However, the winger, who missed his side's 3-1 win over Racing Santander on Monday, is unlikely to return to action until La Liga resumes after the winter break.
A statement on the club's website: "According to tests carried out yesterday (Tuesday) he is suffering from an injury to the right thigh quadriceps and will be out for around three weeks."
