President denies move for Benfica striker

Villarreal president Fernando Roig has denied the club are set to make a January move for Benfica striker Javier Saviola. The Yellow Submarine have endured a difficult start to the season and are currently slumped down in 12th in Primera Liga and bottom of their Champions League group after having lost all five of their games. To compound the club's misery star striker Giuseppe Rossi has been ruled out for six months after suffering a knee injury last month. That gave rise to rumours of a move for Benfica forward Saviola as Rossi's replacement, with the Portuguese club reportedly willing to offload the Argentine in January. However, Villarreal chief Roig denied the rumours, saying: "We have no interest in him. "Villarreal have a squad of 32 players and we cannot sign all the players that the press have been talking about."
