Portsmouth striker Luke Varney is confident the appointment of Michael Appleton will signal a revival in the fortunes of the Championship club.
Appleton suffered defeat in his first game in charge last Saturday as Pompey were beaten 2-0 by Watford.
It was not the managerial debut the former West Brom coach would have wanted; however, Varney is confident his young manager will be a success.
"The gaffer's only been in a week, so it's going to be hard to implement his plans so early, said Varney.
"We're looking forward to working with him. He's got some different ideas and we've enjoyed it.
"He's just overseen things in his first week and I'm sure he'll now start to put his plans into action.
"We'll keep working hard in training so we're ready for another tough game at home against Leicester next week."
