French full-back expects to pen contract extension

Eric Abidal is poised to pen a new contract at Barcelona after admitting that he hopes to see out his playing days at Camp Nou. The France international will see his current deal with the reigning Spanish and European champions expire at the end of the season. Discussions regarding an extension have dragged on for some time, with Abidal's future called into question on a regular basis. He does, however, have an offer on the table and would appear to be set to sign. No agreement has been reached as yet, but the experienced full-back has revealed that he hopes to bring the curtain down on his career in Catalunya. "The club wants to extend my deal and I want to continue my adventure with Barcelona," Abidal told Telefoot.

Complicated

"Like I have always said before, I want to end my career at Barcelona. "Things are complicated, but it's clear we will reach a solution. I think we can all reach an agreement." Barca claim they are waiting on an answer from Abidal, with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta announcing that no further negotiations will be held. "This is a delicate matter that is now in the hands of Abidal," he said. "The club have presented an offer and we will remain calm as we wait for an answer."
