Steve Bruce is hoping John O'Shea will not be suffering from a Euro 2012 hangover ahead of Sunderland's game against Fulham this weekend.

The defender played the full 90 minutes of the Republic of Ireland's 1-1 draw with Estonia that secured them a place in the championships in Poland and Ukraine next summer despite having not featured for his club recently.

O'Shea suffered a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury picked up in pre-season during Sunderland's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last month and missed their visit to his former club Manchester United.

And Bruce is anxious the game did not take too much out of the 30-year-old and he will be fit to return to face Fulham on Saturday.

He said: "It is good that John is fit enough to be back playing for Ireland and I just hope that he has no reaction to that game."
