Chris Wood is determined to retain his place in the Birmingham City team after insisting he has not been surprised by his start to the season.

The teenage striker is on loan at St Andrew's from West Bromwich Albion and has scored 10 goals in all competitions for the club.

He believes his game has improved by playing regularly in the Championship and Europa League, and is eager remain an integral figure for Blues until his loan expires in January.

Asked if he thought he had exceeded expectations at Birmingham, Woods told the club's official website: "I don't think so.

"I always knew I could play at this level, I always knew I could score goals from a young age so it was hopefully only a matter of time before I found that.

"I did get my opportunity at Nacional and hopefully I made some impact and showed what I could do.

"I have come on leaps and bounds from there and hopefully I can keep progressing and keep my name in that starting XI."
