Championship play-off hopefuls Derby County are set for a timely boost with the return of key defender John Brayford.

Right-back Brayford has missed the Rams' last six games with a thigh injury, but may return in Saturday's clash with Hull City at Pride Park.

Derby boss Nigel Clough is desperate for Brayford's return after seeing his side claim just one win - and slip out of the top six - in his absence.

The 23-year-old, County's current player of the year, is not likely to train until later in the week and his manager admitted a late decision will be taken on his fitness on Friday.

"We've missed him at both ends of the pitch. He gives us impetus going forward and also he is a very good defender," Clough told the Derby Telegraph.

"Defensively you can get away with things for only so long. We have just conceded six goals in the last two games and I think we are ready now for John to come back in and help shore things up."
