Sunderland could face competition from Nurnberg for FC Zurich striker Admir Mehmedi in the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old is reported to be one of Steve Bruce's winter targets after impressing during his development in Switzerland.
But Bundesliga outfit Nurnberg are also interested in Switzerland international Mehmedi, who has scored 13 goals in 47 matches for Zurich.
Nurnberg manager Dieter Hecking told Swiss newspaper BLICK: "Admir Mehmedi of FC Zurich is definitely very young and a very interesting striker.
"He will certainly not come cheap at any time."
