Pepe Reina believes playing in England has made Spain team-mate David Silva a better player.
City schemer Silva is expected to start alongside Liverpool keeper Reina for Spain in this weekend's friendly with England.
Silva has been mentioned as an early contender Player of the Year following a number of impressive perfomances for Premier League leaders City this term.
Reina has been impressed by Silva and feels his switch to England has helped the former Valencia man establish himself as a regular in Spain's star-studded side.
"Playing in England has certainly helped David - it has made him a regular starter for Spain," Reina said.
"He's up there with the best in the Premier League. He's improved since he came to England, just like Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres did when they joined us and just like Mata will do at Chelsea.
"Playing in a different league helps you become a better player."
