Everton's Phil Jagielka has hailed team-mate Jack Rodwell's elevation to the England squad.
Rodwell was handed his maiden call-up by Fabio Capello over the weekend and the midfielder is in line to make his debut in one of the forthcoming friendlies against Spain and Sweden.
And Jagielka is firmly behind Rodwell's call-up, insisting he has seen a big improvement in the 20-year-old.
Jagielka, whom Rodwell will join along with Toffees left-back Leighton Baines in the national set-up, feels he has benefited from the sale of Mikel Arteta.
"We have said with Mikel leaving and us being short of numbers in the middle it was time for Jack to step up and he has been fantastic since he has done so," Jagielka told Everton's official website.
"He was unfortunate with the red card against Liverpool but other than that he has been up there with our players of the season so far."
