Alex McLeish has told Barry Bannan to focus on keeping his life on track after returning to the Aston Villa squad.
The 21-year-old midfielder is back in contention for Saturday's home game against Norwich after returning to training this week.
The Scotland international was suspended by the club after being arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
But McLeish feels Bannan has now served his punishment and urged his compatriot to heed the warning.
"We have suspended the investigation and Barry is back in the fold, he's in the squad," McLeish confirmed.
"We have welcomed him back into the squad so I don't see any need to punish him further.
"Listen, he's made a mistake and it's a bad one, and he will learn from that.
"He is able to join us again for full training and get on with his life again of playing football."
