Midfielder's injury-ravaged career continues

Wolfsburg midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger is set to undergo a knee operation in the latest instalment of his injury-plagued career. The former West Ham player, 29, had returned to Germany in a bid to revive his international career having won his last cap in the summer of 2010. But he has made just five appearances this season and only one has consisted of 90 minutes or more after being restricted by problems with his knee. Ahead of Saturday's match with Borussia Dortmund, it has now been confirmed he will be having surgery and Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath is understandably disappointed. "This is a shame, I had expected to have him in our midfield," said Magath.
