Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes Steven Taylor should be rewarded with an international call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad after maintaining the best defensive record in the Premier League.
Taylor has formed a solid centre-back partnership with Fabricio Coloccini which has been at the heart of the Magpies' unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
A 3-1 win over Stoke on Monday night saw them continue their run as they leap-frogged Chelsea into third place and just a point behind Manchester United.
Pardew championed Taylor, insisting he could easily integrate into the England set-up and is more than deserving of a place for the forthcoming friendlies against Spain and Sweden.
"This is a centre-half who is playing with the best defensive record in the league," Pardew said.
"He's quick, he's good in the air, he's brave, he's a very good passer of the ball.
"I look at the England centre-halves we have - and they are a good collection - and I think he definitely can fit in there, no problem."
