West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has ruled out recalling on-loan Chris Wood from Birmingham despite Shane Long being out for up to six weeks through injury.
The Republic of Ireland international sustained a chipped bone in his knee as a result of Alan Hutton's reckless challenge in Saturday's 2-1 derby win at Aston Villa.
But, the Baggies boss insists the team have ample cover in the form of Somen Tchoyi and Peter Odemwingie who are set to start against Liverpool on Saturday, with Simon Cox, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Roman Bednar in reserve.
Although Wood has scored nine goals in his last eight appearances Hodgson believes the recall would be both unnecessary and unfair on the striker.
"We have no plans to bring him back at the moment," Hodgson told the Express and Star.
"We seem to be doing OK without him and I wouldn't want to bring him back just to bolster our squad or make our reserves stronger.
"To bring Chris back now would be the wrong thing to do, because he's getting so much playing time at Birmingham and using it very wisely."
