Derby forward Steve Davies has been ruled out of action until the New Year after undergoing surgery on his fractured skull.
Davies sustained the horrific injury during Saturday's draw with Southampton and he has had screws and plates inserted in his skull.
The news is a major blow for Davies and the Rams as the 23-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to the season and is currently the club's top scorer.
Pride Park boss Nigel Clough admitted everyone at the club was disappointed for Davies after he missed the first half of last season with a serious knee injury.
"Steven has been so unlucky with injuries at Derby County and we're all gutted for him," Clough told the club's official website.
"If anyone is due a bit of luck, it's him.
"It was an innocuous incident as well with no intent from the Southampton player at all.
"He is going to be out for the best part of 12 weeks and we will miss him."
