Andy Hessenthaler has told Barry Fuller to focus on recovering from his knee injury rather than worrying about a new deal.
Fuller has been ruled out for the rest of the season which is when his current Gills deal is due to expire.
Hessenthaler understands Fuller's concerns about his contract situation but wants the defender to focus on his rehabilitation.
The Gills boss told the Kent Messenger: "That's the concern for the lad and it will be for the family.
"That will be going through his mind but I've sat down and had a chat with him and told him not to worry about anything at the moment, let's just get this operation done asap.
"Let's repair the knee and then let's start the rehab. Don't worry about anything else. We won't be talking about contracts or anything, let's get the lad operated on."
